The world can try to steal parts of us. But we can also give pieces away.
And much of what we loose, we have carelessly, recklessly, and unnecessarily relinquished. To our own disadvantages and detriment.
Because it is simply not possible to throw away the best pieces of who we are and what defines us, and hold onto any real sense of our own worthiness.
Giving away some of our rights, influences how our lives will unfold.
Permitting others to define how we should look, act, believe, feel and think, allows them to eventually re-write and re-define us. Gradually diminishing us to shadowy, blurry versions of our real and true selves.
We cannot let others ignore our boundaries and invade our personal spaces. For without appropriate boundaries, our bodies and souls and hearts and minds struggle to flourish.
We cannot relinquish fruitful opportunities for learning, and growing. These are the experiences that have the potential to refine us and transform us into the finest versions of our natural selves.
By giving away pieces of ourselves, we are gradually re-shaped and our stories re-written.
And in the end, we will miss out on the one life, the one best story that God has designed and written specifically for each of us.
A storyline that requires us to use our unique gifts and strengths, if it is to be rightly told.
“For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” (Ephesians 2:10)
He alone assigns our worth and value and dignity. He has generously and lovingly created each one of us. Given us a distinctive combination of gifts and strengths that He calls us to use, in accordance with His plans and purposes for our lives. And for the way He has written our narrative.
His expectations and hopes for us are steady and constant. Because He knows how we have been made, and what we have been made for.
For we know that, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.” (James 1:17-18)
We are His beloved. We are beautifully and wonderfully made. We are one of His good gifts.
Holding onto this beautiful truth, allows us to rise and step into our divinely written stories.
